Description:
Watercolor on paper illustrating a cluster of mushrooms. Jervey noted "Amanita sprita [sic] see Eliza Mitchel Scientific Journal. Burton" on the bottom and wrote on reverse, "from A.1... Considering mushrooms an article of food springing up at our door everyone should know The Deadly Amanita 'The Angel of Death.' Charles McIlva[i]ne one of the best known American authorities claims there are 800 Edible Varieties. I only know I have eaten about 250 varieties. That is quite enough to try to remember."
