Description:

Black and white photograph of members of the research team standing at a makeshift bar. Paul G. Howes is making a drink to the left, William Beebe is in the center with a glass in hand and George Inness Hartley stands to the right looking on. This could possibly be in the Kalacoon House used for the research station.

William Beebe first assembled a research team in 1916 consisting of George Innes Hartley, the Research Associate; Paul G. Howes, the Research Assistant and Microphotographer; Donald Carter, the Collector; and Anna Heyward Taylor and Rachel Hartley as the illustrators. In February of that year they established a research station at Kalacoon House located on the edge of the jungle near Bartica, forty miles up the Essequibo River on the rubber plantation called Hills Estate.
