Description:

Sepia photograph of Paul Howes under a focusing hood photographing a subject. This could possibly be at the research station, Kalacoon House.

William Beebe first assembled a research team in 1916 consisting of George Innes Hartley, the Research Associate; Paul G. Howes, the Research Assistant and Microphotographer; Donald Carter, the Collector; and Anna Heyward Taylor and Rachel Hartley as the illustrators. In February of that year they established a research station at Kalacoon House located on the edge of the jungle near Bartica, forty miles up the Essequibo River on the rubber plantation called Hills Estate.
