Conversations with a Curator: The Art of Herbaria

Conversations with a Curator: The Art of Herbaria

Whether for research, for preservation, or for the joy of personal collecting, people have collected plant specimens for centuries, and many of the examples in The Charleston Museum’s collection were brought in nearly two hundred years ago. Examples from the Museum’s extensive herbarium collection are currently on display in Preserving Nature’s Beauty: The Art of Herbaria, including the never-before-exhibited Dill Sanctuary collection. The exhibition is also an artistic look at the historic plant specimens as well as an exploration into the important contributions of botanists and amateur naturalists to Lowcountry natural history. Join Natural History Curatorial Assistant, Jessica Peragine for Conversations with a Curator on Friday, December 14th for an in-depth look at Preserving Nature’s Beauty: The Art of Herbaria.

Conversations with a Curator programs allows visitors a chance to explore an exhibit in The Charleston Museum, hear stories, ask questions and spark conversations with Museum staff. All Conversations with a Curator programs are open to the public, free for members and free with admission.
