Identification Day: Natural History Edition

Identification Day: Natural History Edition

Have you ever been exploring the outdoors and found something that looks really cool, but you’re not sure what it is exactly? Are you a collector? Maybe you’ve had an item for years that you love, but you’d like to know more about it! If so, then this day is for you!

Join the Charleston Museum and Natural History Curator Matthew Gibson for a celebration of nature, history, curiosity, and discovery with Identification Day on July 18 from 1 – 3 pm! This is the day to have your questions answered about a specimen you have at your house! Bring in your rocks, fossils, shells, leaves, and flowers! Wonder what kind of tree you’ve been staring at out your window? Bring a leaf.  Love the flowers that bloom in your backyard? Bring one and show it to us. Matthew and his Curatorial Assistant, Jessica Peragine, will be in the Museum’s lobby gallery to help you best identify your specimen.

Don’t miss this chance to learn more about your own collections and findings!

PLEASE NOTE:

-Please do not bring any live or recently deceased animals.  If you are curious about an animal, a picture may suffice.

-If you bring in a botany sample, please only bring those that you have permission to take and keep it securely locked in a ziplock bag to be respectful of allergies and/or pests.

-The more information that you can share with us regarding your specimen (ie: where you found it), the better chance there is of identifying your object.

-No Feathers or insects please.
