Description:

Black and white photograph of two ends of a fence with strands of wire strung across poles placed at intervals on a tall brick base ending at the gate to The Oaks Plantation. The gate, standing ajar, leads to a narrow driveway going down the middle of the oak all?e surrounded by an oak grove. The gate, between two very large, brick gateposts, is made in two sections that meet in the center to close and appears to be wrought iron.

Handwritten on reverse reads, "The Oaks Entrance to a country home near Charleston, S.C. This site was formerly the home of a wealthy planter. The first residence was built on it over a century and a half ago. Photo by Morton B. Paine Jr. 47 Meeting St Charleston S.C."
