Podilymbus podiceps, Grebe egg
Description:
One of five pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps podiceps, Linnaeus 1758) eggs collected from Oakland Avenue Pong in Christ Church Parish, Charleston County, South Carolina (see CBE7055-CBE7059). Collector Arthur T. Wayne noted the eggs had been freshly laid at time of collection and the nest was "a floating one in 3ft. of water and anchored. Made of decaying vegetable matter."
