Podiceps auritus, Grebe egg

Description:

One of five horned grebe (Podiceps auritus cornutus) eggs collected from Manitoba, Canada, (see CBE1564 - CBE1568). Collector Ernest Norman noted the incubation as "far advanced" and described the nest as a "floating platform of mud in a small clump of rushes in about 2 feet of water." Egg identification was made based on the observation of nearby parents. Later acquired by Alexander Sprunt.
