Built c.1773 by Philip and Mary Mazyck Porcher on a lot inherited from Mary's father, Isaac Mazyck, it is constructed as a two-story hip-roofed house featuring Georgian paneling in many of the rooms. Later additions include the updated interior with Regency features as well as a one-story piazza to the south side.

Photographer Charles N. Bayless, funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, photographed and recorded the Carolina Lowcountry between 1970 and 1988. The South Carolina Project took place between 1977 and 1979.
