Description:

Black and white photograph of a horse-drawn "pumper" surrounded by people making its way north on Concord Street to assist with a fire on the transport ship "Obdam." The horse-drawn hook and ladder wagon is visible in front of the Lunch and Coffee Cafe making its way west on Market Street seemingly going to make the turn around the fish market basin and head back toward Concord. The Bartholomay Brewery Company can be seen in the background. Caption with negative reads, "Fire on transport 'Obdam.'" Printed from a glass plate negative held in the Museum's collection.

Transport Obdam was used during the Spanish-American War to deploy troops to Cuba, specifically the 3rd Volunteer Wisconsin Infantry stationed at Camp Thomas in Georgia. They departed Charleston on July 20th, 1898.
