Description:

Black and white photograph of Adger's North Wharf (now North Adgers Wharf) in the morning. The photographer captured the image from the water to show street vendors (or hucksters) in various states of loaded or loading their horse-drawn wagons with crops from John's Island and James Island. Most of the wagons are outfitted with shade umbrellas. Handwritten notation on reverse, "Adger's Wharf, Early morning."

Cotton exporters, Henry W. Frost & Co. and Matthiessen Gourdin & Co., as well as cotton factor E.H. Frost & Co., are all listed in the 1910 City Directory on Adger's North Wharf. They would have conducted their business from the warehouse in the background, now addressed as 2-16 North Adgers Wharf. A portion of 1 North Adgers Wharf is visible at the left.
