Description:

Black and white photograph of the Sams' family home located at 37 New Street. Sams set his camera up at the corner of New and Broad Streets to capture the north side of the building. The street side of the south facing piazzas are just visible. Printed from a glass plate negative held in the Museum's collection.

The unique triangle lot was purchased by William C. Hammer in 1863 and is thought that a portion or most of the house was completed. When Donald D. Sams purchased the property in 1868, the two-story house, constructed of brick with a corbeled brick gable end and brick belt course between the floors, was finished. The Sams family occupied the residence for almost a century.
