Description:
Sepia photograph of the dependencies behind the Nathaniel Heyward House. The photographer set the camera up in the workyard facing the gate leading out onto Society Street (38 Society is in view). A portion of the brick outbuilding, visible to the left, functioned as storage and the kitchen house with the slave quarters on the second floor. The brick outuilding to the right served as the stables with hay and feed storage on the second floor. Note the laundry line in the center stretching the entire length of the yard.
