Description:

Black and white photograph of the transport ship "Minnewaska" No. 24 of the Quartermaster Department docked at a what is thought to have been part of Central Wharf on Concord Street. The Treaty of Paris was signed on December 10,1898 officially ending the Spanish-American War but troops were still needed to occupy the new areas that had been acquired by the U.S. forces. The 6th Ohio Volunteer Infantry arrived in Charleston on December 27, 1898 and shipped out two days later aboard the "Minnewaska" to Cienfuegos, Cuba. Printed from a glass plate negative held in the Museum's collection.
