Description:

Black and white photograph of the Steeple Chase amusement ride on the Isle of Palms. One of the more popular rides during the summer months, riders would sit on mechanical horses and race each other, by way of rails and rollers, on a U-shaped track. Both the Steeple Chase ride and the Ferris wheel (visible in the background) were imported from Coney Island. The gentlemen's clubhouse can just be seen to the left behind the track. Printed from a glass plate negative held in the Museum's collection.
