The original photographer focused on the center building. A caption found at the bottom reads, "Judge Heyward's Mansion, Church Street, Where President Washington Was Entertained, 1791."

The original photograph was taken in 1883 and published in "Charleston South Carolina In 1883 With Heliotypes of the Principal Objects of Interest in and Around the City and Historical and Descriptive Notices."
