Description:

Photograph of students and instructor at the Tri-County Technical Education Center (now Trident Technical College) standing in front of a full-scale model of the Confederate submarine, H.L. Hunley (see also MK 16000.2). The students were part of the Mechanical Engineering Technology class at the Tech Center who prepared the construction drawings and built the replica. Identified as (from left): Wayne Blount, Myron Buford, John Geason, Willie Middleton, Leland Shannon, Clayo P. Lee, Frank Rollins, Jake Lee, Jr. (brother to Clayo), Lawrence Williams, Ronald Singletary, James R. Griffith, Daniel A. Singletary, Clay Cabiness (instructor).

This image was taken just before the submarine model was loaded on a flatbed trailer and hauled to the basement of the Citizens & Southern National Bank building at 50 Broad Street. A gift from C&S to The Charleston Museum, the replica was housed and displayed in the Hunley Museum until 1981 when it was moved to The Charleston Museum's new location at 360 Meeting Street.
