Photograph of amateur golfer, Andrew Manson, after he has teed off from the first hole. Paine set his camera up some distance away to capture Manson on the elevated green as well as the spectators gathered at the bottom. His notation on reverse reads, "Manson driving from 1st Tee."

The Southern Amateur was an amateur golf tournament that started in 1902 and played at match play until 1964 when it changed to stroke play. Andrew Manson won the tournament in 1904 and 1905.
