Description:

A metamorphic rock sample of quartz and feldspar in gneiss, with white and gray layering, stained yellow and pink over much of the rock, and one side cut smooth. It was collected about 2 miles northeast of Simpson, circa 1972. It is essentially free of iron-bearing minerals such as biotite and is fairly typical of this part of the Piedmont.
