Description:

Sepia photograph of four men sitting in the sand on the east side of Folly Island. Identified on reverse as, "Promoters of Folly Beach development: 1. N.C. MacMurphy 2. Clarence R.I. Brown, 3. Edward W. Durant, 4. Edw. [Edward] H. Jennings." A horse and carriage can be seen in the background near the water. Also handwritten on reverse reads, "Property of Mrs. Courtenay Olney." Mrs. Courtenay Olney is thought to be Mary Helen Lee, wife of Courtenay and sister-in-law of Lottie S. Olney. This image was removed from the 1950s Folly Beach Township records available in the Manuscript Collection of the Archives.
