Description:

Black and white photograph of the exterior northeast entry pier from the northwest of the Camden Depot located at 29-31 Ann Street.

Built 1849-50 by architect Edward C. Jones, the Camden Depot was constructed to resemble a symmetrical medieval castle with two pairs of crenelated Gothic Revival gates, projecting turrets, traceried lancet windows, pointed arch niches, sunken panels, fake arrow slots, and heavy doors.

Photographer Charles N. Bayless, funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, photographed and recorded the Carolina Lowcountry between 1970 and 1988. The South Carolina Project took place between 1977 and 1979.
