Description:
One of two eastern red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis borealis) eggs collected 5 miles east of Grant Park, Illinois (see CBE880 - CBE881). The clutch was collected in April 1902 by G.A. Abbott and A.E. Price. Abbott noted the nest was "made of sticks and corn husks lined with finer material of same. Placed in large crotch of oak 75 feet up in open woods." Identification was confirmed by observing the female on the nest and the male soaring nearby. The clutch was later acquired by Alexander Sprunt, Jr.
Original set mark: 4/5, Abbott collection.
