Description:

Black and white photograph of the general view north (front) elevation of a commercial building located at 29 Broad Street.

Built c. 1790 by merchants George Macaulay and John Maynard Davis. Victorian changes like the mansard roof, stucco dripstones, bracket cornices, and surmounting balustrade were added in the late 19th century.

Photographer Charles N. Bayless, funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, photographed and recorded the Carolina Low Country between 1970 and 1988. The South Carolina Project took place between 1977 and 1979.
