Description:

Sepia photograph of a structure identified as the kitchen house on Ashley Hall Plantation. Full identification is handwritten on reverse, "Kitchen on plantation formerly owned by Gov. Bull". Another line of handwriting has been crossed out that reads, "Ashley Hall? Ck. against Charleston the Place & the People." This is thought to be the original tabby-walled house on Ashley Hall Plantation. If so, this would be one of the oldest standing structures in South Carolina. A second story was added in the 1900s (see National Register nomination form), but the exact date is not specified. It would have been used as an outbuilding after the second house was built.
