The Charleston Museum's Archaeology Collection consists of materials global in scope with the largest portion coming from prehistoric and historic period (1492 to the present) sites in South Carolina. This segment includes nearly 50,000 context and 500,000 individual artifacts excavated from sites in Charleston and the surrounding region. An additional 3000 objects come from archaeological sites across North America, and roughly 1250 from sites worldwide.
