Exclusive Storeroom Tour and Sneak Peek of our Upcoming Exhibit on Mammals of the Pleistocene

Join Natural History Curator Matthew Gibson as he leads an exclusive tour through the Museum’s storeroom while discussing the process of preparing our upcoming exhibit, When Giants Ruled the Lowcountry: Mammals of the Pleistocene.  This tour, like the exhibit, will focus on many of the now extinct creatures that roamed the Lowcountry during the Pleistocene epoch, or “Ice Age,” and the possible reasons why they went extinct. Although South Carolina wasn’t frozen over during this time period, the coast line was very different, extending out into what is now submerged beneath the Atlantic Ocean; many of the specimens that will be discussed might surprise you! This is an opportunity for participants to hear about the process of curating an exhibit, learn in-depth about When Giants Ruled the Lowcountry, view the Museum’s storeroom and some specimens that will not even be on display to the public as well as converse with the Museum’s Natural History Curator. Feel free to ask questions! When this new exhibit opens to the public, you’ll be able to share everything you’ve learned with friends and family
