Conversations with a Curator: The Charleston Apothecary with Chief Curator Grahame Long

Conversations with a Curator: The Charleston Apothecary with Chief Curator Grahame Long

Typically, falling victim to seasonal illness is not a question of if, but when. What are mostly minor maladies today, however, were once matters of life and death. August through November, formerly known locally as the “sickly season,” kept the city’s apothecaries extremely busy. Join chief curator Grahame Long for a rare look inside the Museum’s “Charleston Apothecary” exhibit and discuss what helped keep Charlestonians alive in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Conversations with a Curator allows visitors a chance to have an intimate look at an exhibit in The Charleston Museum, hear stories, ask questions and spark conversations. The Museum’s collections are both extraordinary and diverse and each Curator-led talk and tour will allow participants to immerse themselves in different areas of Charleston’s history. All Conversations with a Curator programs are open to the public and FREE for Members and free with admission.

Conversations with a Curator programs are typically held on the second Friday of each month, with a few exceptions.
