When most people think about fossils, the first animals to come to mind are dinosaurs. Early in the Mesozoic Era, the time of the dinosaurs, shifting continents would place South Carolina in the center of the supercontinent Pangaea. Dinosaur diversity would have been near its peak by the mid-Mesozoic, however by then Pangaea would have been split. This allowed the ocean to claim most of our state resulting in a habitat filled with gigantic marine reptiles like mosasaurs and plesiosaurs. Join Natural History Curator Matthew Gibson in our newly renovated Natural History hall and explore how dinosaurs lived in South Carolina.

Conversations with a Curator allows visitors a chance to have an intimate look at an exhibit in The Charleston Museum, hear stories, ask questions and spark conversations. The Museum’s collections are both extraordinary and diverse and each Curator-led talk and tour will allow participants to immerse themselves in different areas of Charleston’s history.

All Conversations with a Curator programs are open to the public and FREE for Members and free with admission.

Conversations with a Curator programs are typically held on the second Friday of each month, with a few exemptions.
