What can a seemingly unremarkable brick reveal about the development of the Lowcountry, its historic buildings, and the people who inhabited them? The Charleston Museum’s team of curators have recently revised the Museum’s exhibit on brickmaking to focus on those enslaved laborers and craftspeople who produced the brick, and indeed that built the Lowcountry. Bricks from the many kilns that dotted local rivers are now on display.

Learn more about the brick-making industry in the Lowcountry with The Charleston Museum’s Curator of Historical Archaeology, Martha Zierden. On Friday, June 14th at 10:30 am, Martha will lead a talk diving into this industry and the hands that built Charleston. This talk is free for members and free with admission to The Charleston Museum. No registration is necessary.
