Blue Hues: Indigo Dyeing, Painting, and Printing (Ages 8 - 12)

Explore the fantastic and versatile dye indigo! Campers will learn about the Lowcountry history of indigo, its impact worldwide, and the science of vat dyeing. The magic of this dye can be seen especially during oxidation when it turns from bright green to blue right before the eyes. During the week, campers will explore shibori tie-dye techniques, cassava paste resist, making indigo paint and screen printing with indigo ink. Campers can bring personal items to dye, paint and print on in addition to provided cotton fabric. Program is being led by local artist Kristy Bishop.
