This delicate 100% silk change purse is accented with details of the bird and long tail sheep motifs from the sampler made by Ann Wragg (1756 û 1835). The long tail sheep were a common theme in Charleston-made samplers; however, the flowers hearts, and birds have strong Dutch influences.
"Charleston Silver" features images of Charleston silver and other historically significant objects related to silversmiths from the collections of the Charleston Museum. It includes pieces both manufactured by local artisans and imported local retailers.
This luxurious silk pillow approximately 10ö x 12ö depicts the sampler made by Catherine McNeill dated October 22, 1788 at age 10. The McNeill sampler is worked in bands of cross-stitch embroidery with alphabets, numerals and flame stitch and strawberries. This pillow is a perfect gift for the stitcher that has it all.
