As spring in Charleston transitions into a playful and sunny summer, so do the garments in the Charleston Museum's Seasonal Fashions exhibit. The museum continues its year-long rotation in its Historic Textiles Gallery with Seasonal Fashions: Summertime in Charleston, on exhibit April 21 through August 26, 2012. The exhibit explores bathing garments and accessories beginning with the cumbersome, full-coverage bathing costumes of the late 19th and early 20th century through the form-following, functional and sporty suits that emerged in the 1920s and 30s and the more glamorous suits of the 1940s and 50s.

Each Tuesday we post a piece from our textile collection. Some items have been on exhibit, some will eventually be shown in our new Historic Textiles Gallery and some may be just too fragile to display. We hope you enjoy our selection each week – do let us know if there’s something in particular you’d like to see on #TextileTuesday
