Seasonal Fashions: Springtime in Charleston, the first installment in a year-long seasonal exhibit, includes an array of white, embroidered and lacy fashions of the 1900s - 1920s, perfect for a lovely spring day. Huge hats and omnipresent parasols that completed the fashionable look are not overlooked. Seasonal Fashions: Springtime in Charleston is rounded out with examples of silk art embroidery, popular in the early 1900s, and beautiful silk batiks by Anna Heyward Taylor in the 1920s, reflecting the botanical themes enjoyed by artists and needleworkers of Charleston.

Each Tuesday we post a piece from our textile collection. Some items have been on exhibit, some will eventually be shown in our new Historic Textiles Gallery and some may be just too fragile to display. We hope you enjoy our selection each week – do let us know if there’s something in particular you’d like to see on TEXTILE TUESDAY! #TextileTuesday
