Description: |
The Charleston Museum's Heyward-Washington House will offer special Spring garden tours every Thursday afternoon during the month of April 2010. The Heyward-Washington garden is of a formal design which became popular with the building of the Palace of Versailles in 1661. The formal garden was distinguished by its symmetry, discipline, and geometry. All plants in The Heyward-Washington garden were introduced to the Lowcountry no later than 1791; many were imported from Europe. Visitors will see camellia, tea olive, boxwood, althea, yellow begonia, roses, herbs, and more. Today, the garden is maintained by the Garden Club of Charleston.
The special 4:00 April garden tours are not available to group tours. |
